Meet the senior citizens of Noah’s Ark
This month, we feature our long time residents who have been with us for many years. They would like to tell you their stories and how they love living at the sanctuary.
Christian,
domestic short hair cat, 15 years old
Hello!
My name is Christian and I used to live in Hougang in Singapore many
years ago. The person who was looking
after me wanted to send me to PTS (PTS means “put to sleep”) because I
had feline FIV. Uncle Raymund decided to
take me in and I made the journey all the way from Hougang to Johor.
I really love it here and because of my
condition, I get to live with Uncle Raymund together with my friends, Cupid,
Pebbles and Snowy at the main house.
Whenever, we have visitors, I do my part by hopping onto their laps for
a cuddle. They seem to love that. That’s the least I can do to help.
Who says a cat with FIV cannot have a
good quality of life? Looks like I am
going to live to a ripe old age so I will need some help here to cover my food costs
and medical bills. Will you help me and
my friends? Over to you Tilby!
Tilby,
Cross Husky, 11 years old
Hi!
I am Tilby. I have been living at
Noah’s Ark for the past 9 years. When I
was only 2 years old, my caregiver had
to give me up because she became ill.
Luckily, I was granted a place at the sanctuary on compassionate
grounds. When I was young, I loved to
escape and go on my own adventures.
Every time, they would go look for me and bring me home safe and
sound. I thoroughly enjoyed the car ride
home!
When I settled in, I decided to make
myself useful so I helped to lead the sanctuary tours and showed people
around. That made me feel good. It was my way of repaying these people who
have given me lots of love and looked after me really well all this time.
You see, taking a young dog in, like
myself, is a huge responsibility for the sanctuary. We can live up to 14 or 15 years. That’s a lot of food and medical bills. Only just recently, I gave them a scare when
I got really sick. I thought I was a
goner but they did everything they could to nurse me back to health. Now, I am fully retired and live at the main
house.
Noah’s Ark is a sanctuary for animals
who have been abused, abandoned or surrendered by their caregivers who can no longer
look after them. This is our forever home where we can happily roam free, play
with our friends and live out the rest of our lives in dignity.
We are provided with the basic
necessities of food, water, shelter and medical attention, when needed. The dogs and horses have the freedom to roam
on the 10-acre site and the cats are kept in spacious open catteries.
Here are more stories from us, seniors!
Pepi,
Cross Terrier
11 years old
They call me Pepi. I was bought by this gentleman for his grandchildren. However, he became terminally ill and there
was no one to look after me. Noah’s Ark
got to know about my predicament and agreed to give me a home at the sanctuary. You can come see me at the clinic or the main
house where I have lived for many years with all my friends. I love it when children come visit. It reminds me of the family I used to live
with.
Mindy,
Cross Breed
11 years old
I arrived at Noah’s Ark with my mother
when I was young. We were rescued from
an industrial estate. Mum always warned
me about not getting too friendly with the humans so I kept away from them as
best as I could. Since we were wary of
humans, our rescuers had a hard time re-homing us. The decision was made to send us to the
sanctuary. When my mother passed away,
I was devastated but the people here did their best to earn my trust. It took me at least 5 years for me to open up
to their kindness. Now, I am roaming
free and will not object to an occasional pet here and there when people visit.
Tiger,
Cross Breed, 10 years old
My name is Tiger and I used to live in
an industrial estate. I was involved in
an accident and my caregiver rescued and brought me to the vet to be treated
for my injuries. They had to insert a
plate and pins to hold my bone together and my caregiver nursed me back to
health. Since I was a bigger dog and not
HDB-approved, my caregiver could not keep me and approached Noah’s Ark for
help. The rest is history as I now enjoy
my stay here with my new friends.
Cookie,
Cross Corgi
10 years old
When I was a puppy, I did something
which a dog wasn’t supposed to do. I bit
a child. It wasn’t really my fault but
one thing led to another and my family decide to give me up. The child who got bitten found this place
called Noah’s Ark on the internet and pleaded with the family to let me stay at
the sanctuary. I have been living here
since then. There have been no incidents
of me biting anyone. I just live my life
peacefully alongside all the animals here.
No problems at all… Love, Cookie.
Bonnie,
Cross Breed
9 years old
I was locked up in a cage 24/7 with
another dog. My rescuer contacted Noah’s
Ark for assistance to rescue us both.
They named me Bonnie and my friend, Clyde. I am so glad we were rescued and we were then
whisked to the safety of the sanctuary where we have been living all these
years. Clyde passed away and I miss
him. I live at the main house where they
can keep an eye on me. My rescuer still
comes to visit and I like that very much.
Miss
McDonalds
Cross Breed
8 years old
They call me Miss McDonalds because I
was rescued at a McDonalds drive-thru in the West Coast. I only allowed my rescuer to handle me but he
could not keep me. The best option was
for me to be boarded at Noah’s Ark where he paid for my upkeep. Unfortunately, he has stopped paying my boarding
bills and I will now have to rely on your generosity for my stay here.
8 years old
I must have been skin and bones when my
rescuer called me Bones. He found me
wandering along Cairnhill Road in Singapore and decided to bring me to his
home. However, his wife protested and
insisted that I be removed so he contacted Noah’s Ark to board me, promising to
pay for my upkeep. He even applied for
my export and import permit to expedite the process because he was in such a
hurry to get me out of the house.
Unfortunately, he broke his promise.
There are many dogs at Noah’s Ark who have similar stories to mine. Our owners and rescuers have conveniently
forgotten about us and broken their promise to pay for our stay here.
If you
can help, please do so by sponsoring our stay here so we can live out the rest
of our senior years at this wonderful place that we all call haven.
Thank you!
