Noah's Ark Food Donation Drive - September 2016

Dear Friends of NANAS

We are pleased to announce that Pets' Station is organising another food drive for the dogs and cats at Noah’s Ark Natural Animal Sanctuary (NANAS) for the month of September.

Pets' Station will match every order of dry or tinned food that you make — one for one.

Rescuing an animal is easy but these animals are now our responsibility for the rest of their natural lives. Most of them had owners and caregivers but became victims in the hands of man that abused and abandoned them. NANAS is now a safe haven for these voiceless animals to call home and a safe place to die with dignity.

A large portion of the operating expenses at NANAS goes to food for the 700 dogs and 300 cats.

To give you an idea of what it takes to feed them twice a day on a daily/monthly basis:

Noah’s Ark Tour Terms & Conditions

• There will be no refund if you do not show up for the tour regardless of the weather.  The money will be taken as donation for the animals at the sanctuary.
• We are unable to cancel your registration once payment has been made.
• Substitutes are acceptable, but only one change of name/person is allowed and it must be one week before the departure date.
• Young children (under 8 years old) are not advised to visit unless they have no fear of being surrounded by many dogs at one time.  Parents/Guardians will have to be responsible for their children/ward at the sanctuary.

OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT

We are pleased to announce that our new entity, Noah’s Ark Natural Animal Shelter (NANAS) in Singapore has been approved by the Registry of Societies on 27 July 2016.

A new committee with a brand new team has been formed, headed by Mr Raymund Wee, Original Founder of Noah’s Ark in 1995 as President to continue its mission to help animals in need both in Singapore and Malaysia.

Raymund Wee says, “Animal suffering knows no national boundaries.  We will not let politics or borders stop our compassion.”

Since our announcement at the beginning of July about our split with NA CARES in Singapore and subsequently losing our funding for sanctuary operations, we have been inundated with offers of help from all quarters.

•   We wish to thank our loyal supporters and donors from Singapore and Malaysia for their continuous support and generous donations during this difficult time. 

•   We are very grateful to our volunteers and friends who stepped up efforts to help raise funds to ensure that we give the same standard and quality of care to the more than 1,000 animals living at the sanctuary. 

•   All our sanctuary tours have been over-subscribed with people eager to help in any way possible. 

•   Help came from as far as Australia in the form of financial assistance to help feed our horses and ponies.  We wish to thank Janet Thomas and her team from Animal Aid Abroad Inc. 

•   From Singapore, Pets Station organised a food drive for our dogs and cats.  For every purchase of dog or cat food, Pets Station matched it on a one-for-one basis.

•   We Heart Stray TNRM Group staged the first ever public fund raising event in Johor, Malaysia in aid of NANAS.

We are truly and deeply humbled by this outpouring of support from the public as more and more people come on board to help us help the animals.

Pets' Station Food Donation Drive

Dear Friends of Noah’s Ark

  

Thank you for your support towards the food donation drive organized by Pets' Station in May 2016 to help feed 700 dogs and 300 cats at Noah’s Ark Natural Animal Sanctuary.

The transporter has delivered the food last week to the sanctuary, with your support, we have raised:

·             430 bags of dry dog food (each bag is 12kg)

·             1960 trays of dog wet food (each tray is 100g each)

·             70 bags of dry cat food (each bag is 6kg)

·             1252 tins of cat wet food (each tin is 400g)

Many of the residents at the sanctuary were abandoned, accident victims, neglected and abused by their caregivers and members of the public – the sanctuary is a safe haven for them to call Noah’s Ark their forever home.  Please visit our blog at http://nanasanctuary.blogspot.sg to stay in touch of our work.

Volunteering at Noah's Ark

My first visit to Noah's Ark

2 April 2016 was my first visit to Noah’s Ark as part of a tour was just a week before I decided to volunteer with them and my reason was simple – I truly enjoyed being there. - David Puvan

Stepping into the field with a hundred dogs running towards me felt surreal and I fell in love with the sanctuary instantly. I remember feeling really excited about volunteering with the sanctuary and getting to know the residents a bit more.

My first day volunteering at Noah's Ark.

After being warmly welcomed (best welcome ever!) by the dogs who yearned for our touch, we kicked start our first activity of designing the names of the horses.  Art wasn’t really my zone of comfort but the idea of adding my personal touch to the stables was truly fulfilling.  It was then that I foresaw how I would enjoy the rest of my day – personally interacting with the animals and making their day better as it would mine.

I was given the opportunity to give Primus a bath.

When we got to the stables to watch the horses roam freely within the field, it was an experience like no other.  Watching the horses gallop alongside the dogs made me feel like I was part of an extravagant movie.  The interaction between the horses and with the dogs was something I could marvel at the whole day. This to me, was the best part of my experience – watching animals in an unbounded zone, free of human restrain and control.

The cutest interaction I observed was between Melody, the oldest and wisest, and Accolade (who apparently adored the former).  Accolade kept nudging his way toward my camera as I was trying to take a selfie with Melody – he either was jealous or wanted to be a part of our family portrait (which I would gladly have loved to accede if my camera was wide enough >.<)

My next most memorable experience would be brushing the fur of the big dogs – this could have gone on forever but I enjoyed every bit of it.  Grooming the dogs was actually more therapeutic than I thought it would be – I guess because there was this attachment that brew between me and the dogs that it felt this way.  The love I felt was boundless; they enjoyed being touched and brushed and never wanted you to move on to another dog.  See, brushing them wasn’t only doing them good, it was also making me feel really loved. These animals have so much love to share and they just need people to shower them on.

Learning from the team, especially Lynda, was both enlightening and inspirational. There was so much that was done to help these vulnerable animals and there is still so much more that can be done.  Really, it isn’t how much we can do but what we can do that matters. I am a student who probably can’t contribute financially but simply being there and helping out in the smallest ways possible made a difference to the sanctuary, and most importantly to the ever-loving animals.  The appreciation of the team and the friendships I made there with my fur-buddies only makes me want to do more in my future visits…  And yes, I am definitely going back again – I miss my friends already!
