NANAS First Fund Raising Dinner: 25 November 2016
This was a night to remember!
It was the first fundraising dinner by NANAS Singapore ever since it’s inception in July 2016. Vernon Cornelius and guest singer, Angelita Li from Hong Kong together with the live band did a fantastic job not only performing evergreen favourites during dinner but also granting requests from the audience and raising funds for the animals at NANAS at the same time.
We wish to thank all our supporters for attending the event and for making it a success. Many thanks to the donors for their contributions as well as the sponsors for our raffle prizes. Every bit counts and the funds raised were enough to cover the food costs and other expenses for the sanctuary for the month of September.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Shiro's Tale
Shiro was ill treated by his ex owner in Singapore and we tried rehoming for several months and was unsuccessful because some people found him too old, he didn't have the looks and he walked funny with a cow hock legs.

Shiro is a lucky dog to be given a 2nd chance at the sanctuary and Noah's Ark has been his forever home for the past 14 months.
If you get to know him, he is a super duper sweet nature boy and some days he does behave like a BIG BABY. He does not like injections, if he does get one, he will cry loudly.
If you visit the sanctuary, do say "Hi" to Shiro - he stays at the main house.

Mickey & Pluto are now living at Noah’s Ark
Mickey (second from left) and Pluto (second from right) hanging out with their new friends. |
Mickey and
Pluto were two guard dogs living in a factory which was in the process of
closing its operations. Having outlived
their usefulness, they would most probably be left behind to fend for themselves. This is a very common scenario during
difficult economic times.
Taking
Action
Hearing
about the plight of these two dogs, Roger and Christine, at their own expense,
engaged a security guard to feed and look after the dogs at the empty facility
while they searched for a long-term solution to provide for the dogs. They wrote to many rescue groups in Singapore
but to no avail so they turned to Noah’s Ark Natural Animal Sanctuary (NANAS)
in Johor which took up the case.
Having
paid for the health checks at the vet, they also sponsored the dogs’ journey to
NANAS. They continued to help with
monthly contributions for the dogs under the Noah's Ark sponsorship programme
and made it a point to visit the dogs at NANAS whenever there was a public
tour. More importantly, Roger and
Christine are committed to the care of the dogs even after Noah’s Ark took up the case.

Commitment
and Responsibility
So what
does it actually take to save an animal’s
life? Aside from having compassion and
making that one phone call, it takes commitment and responsibility. Rescue groups depend largely on
volunteers. When someone reports a case
to us, the work does not stop there. It
is only just the beginning.
Roger and
Christine were not able to keep the dogs because of their existing pet
commitments but that did not stop them from giving the two dogs another shot at
life. It was inhumane to leave them to
fight for their own fate.
They could
not turn a blind eye but instead were committed and changed the lives of these
two dogs. Mickey and Pluto would never
have had a new lease of life in NANAS if WORDS did not turn into ACTION.
One person’s action can turn another’s life into a better
one. We cannot thank Roger and Christine
enough for their commitment to save the lives of these two dogs and for
continuing their journey with them.
You Can
Also Help Us To Help Them
Rescue
work is never easy and that is the reason why we need your help so we can help
these unfortunate animals. If you are
able to contribute in any way to our cause, please contact us at nanassporea@gmail.com.

Khang Khang's plight - slashed by a man wielding a parang
Khang Khang - after the attack by the abuser
and before he was brought to the
animal clinic in Melaka.
|
14-Oct-16
Khang Khang was slashed by a man wielding a parang on a motorbike at Taman Malim Jaya, Melaka. When the first blow struck, Khang Khang was so stunned that he shat and peed on the spot, giving the sadist a second chance to slash him again. That shook him up and he ran away leaving a trail of blood behind him.
Khang Khang became a stray 2 months ago. He had an owner. She died from a sudden stroke in a hospital. Overnight he was homeless. Khang Khang depended on the neighbours to feed him.
At the animal clinic in Melaka. He stayed over night so that he could have a good's night rest and away from harm. |
17-Oct-16
A
neighbour and her 4 year old grandson witnessed the attack on Khang Khang. Her
daughter contacted us and asked for help as he was in pain and flies were
hovering over his wound.
We
advised to bring Khang Khang to an animal clinic in Melaka for treatment. The neighbour also feared for his safety as
the abuser was seen "ronda" the Taman, looking for Khang Khang.
When
Raymund Wee learnt of Khang Khang's plight, he immediately offered the
sanctuary as a permanent home.
Khang Khang was discharged from animal clinic in Melaka and on the way to a "safe place". |

When Your Pets Outlive You - Happy Ending
Remember Aunty Jennie travelled 3 over hours
from Seremban to Noah's Ark Natural Animal Shelter to visit her dogs?
10 years ago at the age of 68 Aunty Jennie packed her
belongings and moved to Malaysia with her 7 rescued dogs which she raised as
puppies from the streets of Singapore.
When I asked her why did she move to
Malaysia?
She said that they could not stay in the apartment
because they were getting bigger and she feared that neighbours will complain.
However, things did not turn out as well as
it would be when she moved to Malaysia. Neighbours started to complain that her
dogs were noisy. In order for her dogs to be with her and NOT wanting to give
up the dogs she had to debark the dogs.
Before you criticise her for debarking the
dogs - please ask yourself if you were in her situation which option would you
choose? Especially when one is so far away from home and all alone with no
support from family and friends - she has no other choice.
(A) To rehome the dogs and not knowing how
your dogs will be treated and the dogs will NOT have the same love given by
you?
OR
(B) To debark the dogs and to be with them
for the rest of their life?
If I had to pick one, I will choose option
(B) because I rather have my fur kids with me till their last breathe then to
be away from them.
Ten years have passed and 4 dogs have passed
on. Two months ago, Aunty Jennie had to downgrade from renting a house to
renting a room, she approached Noah's Ark Natural Animal Shelter for help if we
could take on her dogs.
After considering her appeal and her age, we
accepted her three dogs and made Noah's Ark their forever home.
We were also concern for Aunty Jennie who is
now 78 and living alone so that she can have a peace of mind that her dogs are
taken care off.
As much as we would like to save every dog or
cat on the streets, we can't take in and save all animals.
Noah's Ark Natural Animal Shelter's Mission
is to help single seniors who are living alone and to help their pets in case
anything happens to them. And our priority is to provide shelter for animals
who have abused and with disabilities.

When there is a WILL there's a WAY
Sunday, 23 Oct 2016, it was the first time that I met Aunty Jennie, she's 78 years old and she traveled 4 hours on the bus from Seremban, Malaysia to Noah's Ark Natural Animal Shelter in Johor to visit her dogs.
When
there is a WILL there's a WAY.
This shows true determination and dedication for her dogs.
I salute Aunty Jennie for making that journey on her own.
Stay tune for Aunty Jennie's story.

Updates at Noah's Ark Natural Animal Shelter: October 2016
13 October 2016
Dear Friends of NANAS
Noah's Ark Natural Animal Shelter (NANAS) is no longer affiliated to Noah's Ark CARES
It has come to our attention that some of our donors are not aware thatNoah's Ark Natural Animal Shelter (NANAS) which runs the animal sanctuary in Johor, Malaysia is now a separate entity from Noah's Ark CARES in Singapore.
Both entities, their operations and fundraising initiatives, were separated in June 2016.
- A new entity, Noah's Ark Natural Animal Shelter (NANAS) in Singapore was formed on 27 July 2016 for the purpose ofcontinuing our rescue operations in Singapore as well as forraising funds for shelter operations in Malaysia.
- Noah's Ark CARES is solely based in Singapore.
- Noah's Ark CARES no longer funds the operations in Malaysia with effect from June 2016.
A new bank account has been opened for NANAS Singapore.
All donations, sponsorship and boarding fees for the animals at the animal sanctuary in Johor, Malaysia should be paid into this new account.

Meet Meowmi, a 10 year old cat who arrived in September
She belonged to and was cared for by a maid but when her contract ended, she was sent home. The employer also did not want to keep the cat and was going to put it to sleep.
Fortunately, Andrew came to know about Meowmi's plight, tried all means to re-home her but failed as she can be quite a handful and difficult to handle. Most people would also not adopt senior cats so chances of re-homing her was very slim.
At the last resort, Andrew turned to Noah's Ark (NANAS) for help. We agreed to take the cat because we were satisfied that he had exhausted all means to help the animal.
Andrew has also taken responsibility to look after Meowmi for the rest of her life by sponsoring her stay at the sanctuary. We applaud him for doing his utmost to ensure that Meowmi be given a second chance.
7 dogs just arrived from a shelter forced to shut down due to rental increase
The landlord had doubled the rent and refused to budge so the operator of the shelter accepted our offer of help. She had also told us that she would do her best to re-home as many dogs as possible before her lease expired at the end of September.
Out of a total of 22 dogs, 15 dogs were re-homed. The remaining 7 dogs were sent to Noah's Ark (NANAS). These were the ones that were difficult to re-home, especially the black, black and tan and older dogs.
However, these 7 dogs are the lucky ones who are now given a second chance at the sanctuary. They are very sociable and have happily settled in. We are sure, that in no time, they will be free to play, roam and run around on the sanctuary grounds.
All expenses incurred were paid for by the shelter operator and her friends which included sterilisation, vaccination, health checks, transportation and documentation fees.
Pets Station Food Donation Drive extended to 31 October
Please note that we have received your orders for September and it will be delivered to the sanctuary together with the October's food drive to save the transport cost to JB.
